Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy, also referred to as water therapy. It is a form of treatment that is used to treat a variety of conditions, symptoms and pain. Hydrotherapy is thus the implementation of specific exercises and movements inside a heated pool, to provide relief of symptoms while strengthening your body.
Many healthcare providers may suggest the use of hydrotherapy as part of a more holistic approach to your current treatment or symptom management plan. It is a conservative therapy and can be beneficial to alleviate symptoms like muscle pain and joint stiffness or sensitivity. It is crucial to understand that hydrotherapy should be seen as a method to manage your symptoms and not to cure your condition. Although it might not cure conditions and diseases, it is still an effective treatment method to get your body moving and stronger while at the same time managing your pain, stiffness and body aches.
Hydrotherapy with us
All our hydrotherapy sessions are currently being held in Garsfontein, which is less than 4km from our Olympus practice in Pretoria East. The hydrotherapy sessions take place in an indoor heated pool, which allows us to continue treatment sessions even if it rains.
We provide group classes and one on one therapy sessions. This depends on your condition and severity of pain.
All individuals will be evaluated before hydrotherapy sessions are commenced. If so required we may use exercise equipment specific to the pool to benefit your session.

What ages do we accommodate?
As biokineticists, we provide clinical exercise to assist in various conditions and to various individuals. Thus, all ages between 6 and older are welcome to book a hydrotherapy session with us. The only requirement is for the individual to be comfortable in and around water.
Not sure if hydrotherapy is for you?
Ofcourse it is not an easy decision to start an activity if you have never done it before. You are more than welcome to book an initial consultation with us to see if the warm heated pool environment and the exercises in the pool are for you. In this session we will take a thorough medical history and your reason for wanting to do hydrotherapy. Thus we can identify if this is something that is suited for you, your pain, injury or condition.
We can help you to make the decision if needed. From here we will book a hydrotherapy session if you and your biokineticist agrees it is the best therapy for you. In each session the exercises, intensity and duration of the session can be adapted to your condition (bio’s advise) and or preference.
