Return to sport
All athletes know what we’re talking about. Whether your injury was small or big, it still ended in you having to take time off. It is understandable that you definitely don’t want to take time off. Ofcourse the time taken off depends on what type of injury you have. But here’s the good news.. We are here to assist you along evey step of the way!
Usually most athletes go to a physiotherapist when the injury occurs. Your physio should already start with initial rehabilitation and exercises after the most swelling and pain has gone. HERE’S THE THING.. Many athletes stop here. Which is the worst thing you can do. Yes you do not have all that initial pain and swelling and limit in movement and you have done some rehab, right? And the physio can even strap you when you need the additional assistance on the field or while you are in practice.

So why come to us?
Because, research shows that most injuries create the highest risk for re-injury. If you complete your rehabilitation correctly and completely to reduce the risk for re-injury.. You need to know that your risk is reduced! And we can help assess you to see if you are still at a high risk for re-injury. Wo wouldn’t want to do anything to prevent re-injury? We complete objective evaluations which is sport or injury specific. This is to give you an idea if you need further rehabilitation and which areas to focus on.
High risk injuries for re-injury:

- Ankle sprains / ligament injuries (specifically lateral ankle injuries)
- Hamstring tears
- ACL tears
- Meniscus injuries
2. Prevention of injuries
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. Allthough athletes and sport enthusiasts train very hard at whatever sport they do. Many only focus on doing that sport. This might cause overactive muscles and underactive muscles to become more prominent. Basically causing muscle imbalances. One of the ways to combat this is to do cross training to condition your body in a more holistic approach. Not using the same muscles in the same manner all the time. Your muscle imbalances will improve which means less risk for injuries.
Another approach to prevention of injuries is to prepare your body for what it needs to do in action. After any injury your muscles are weaker than before. Making sure it is exactly as strong as it was before, similar to the uninjured side or maybe even stronger than prior to the injury. Additionally, your balance is severly affected after an injury. Why is balance so important. Well, static and dynamic balance is basically what gives you stability during movement and with compromised stability, your risk for reinjury increases. We are able to objectively test your balance ability with specialised equipment.
Make sure your muscles are strong enough before you go back to competitive sports. And make sure your balance is better than it was before your injury.
