Orthopaedic specific evaluations

Amputee / orthopaedic Patient assisted mobility

These evaluations can be done in many different ways and with different equipment.

However, at our practice we strive to establish your MOVEMENT DIAGNOSIS through clinical evaluation. As biokineticist we are not permitted to diagnose any injury or condition but we specialize in movement. As a result, we can ‘diagnose’ your movement patterns, strength imbalances, stability imbalances and limitations in muscle activations.

We assess your muscle, tendon, ligament and bone (orthopaedics) injuries and conditions. By completing the clinical evaluation and establishing your movement limitations we are able to determine the possible cause of injury. After this evaluation we are then able to prescribe an exercise therapy program (rehabilitation program) to address your movement diagnosis. The rehabilitation program is prescribed according to each individual and made specific to you, our patient .Our biokineticist will also inform you if you need to be referred to another health professional. We pride ourselves in assisting patients in a holistic manner and if we think your injury, diagnosis or condition will be improved through another manner, we will definitely share this information with you.

After your medical history taking, you will be asked to perform a few physical tasks or complete different tests that will assist in the movement diagnosis such as special tests, balance tests, strength, flexibility / mobility tests, biomechanical movement analysis and many more. We use equipment such as a Sensamove Balance, Wattbike Pro, Treadmill,  Surface EMG (Electromyography-muscle and nerve test), field tests, free weights, bands and many more to complete the evaluation.

All these clinical evaluations give us information that establishes a baseline value for your rehabilitation process. We aim to improve your movement diagnosis by prescribing exercise programs that work. Improving your pain, strength and weaknesses. You will receive your exercise therapy program in your follow up session with the biokineticist. You will be able to access your prescribed exercise therapy program via an app on your iphone or android phone. It will have videos, pictures and descriptions of your rehabilitations exercises. And you will have free access to this app as long as you are one of our patients. If you prefer not to use your phone you will be able to access it on your computer or email and if that does not suit you, your program can be printed for you.
