Initial Biokinetics Evaluation

Biokinetics evaluation

The first step to your rehabilitation journey is booking an initial biokinetics evaluation with one of our Biokineticists. You are welcome to GET IN TOUCH with us.And we will be glad to answer any questions you have.

Our practice focusses on orthopaedic injuries as well as chronic condition prevention and management. Which means, your initial biokinetics evaluation depends on your injury or condition. Please read our other articles on our blog if you would like more information regarding this.

Initial biokinetics evaluations include a medical history. But you answer additional questions asked, based on the information given to us. So, the more information you give us, the better! A physical evaluation is completed after the the biokineticist has a clearer picture of your injury or condition. So not every or all the tests is done in your first evluation. Only the most appropriate evaluation is selected for you.

The physical evaluation includes any of the following:

  1. Postural analysis
  2. Special tests (assessing the specific joint)
    Surface EMG Testing
    Surface EMG Testing
  3. Heart rate, blood pressure or blood suger tests
  4. Balance tests (Sensamove)
  5. A range of flexibility / mobility tests
  6. Muscle strength tests (Surface EMG – Electric muscle generation tests)
  7. Functional / body mechanics tests
  8. Cardiovascular fitness (Wattbike / Treadmill / Step test etc)

So, to sum it up, there are many different tests that can be completed in an orthopaedic evaluation. Because it all depends on your injury or condition. How far you are in your rehabilitation process. And many other factors determine the test selection by the biokineticist.

Intermittent Biokinetics Evaluation

In order for us to monitor your progress, intermittent evaluations are a must! Who does not want to see their own progress? You book follow up sessions every few weeks. Because, this assists us to complete a periodic clinical evaluation. And periodic evaluations tell us if we are moving in the right direction or if we need to adjust anything. After your follow up evaluation, the biokineticist explains your results, progress and possible areas to still improve on. Together you discuss future goals and plans to achieve them!
